Guillermo Villarreal

Founder and freediving instructor

My name is Guillermo Villarreal, but everyone calls me Memo. I am the founder and lead freediving instructor at Diving Sombrero. Born and raised in Ciudad Victoria, Mexico. I discovered my passion for the underwater world early in life. Starting as a scuba diving instructor, I quickly realized my true calling was in the art of freediving—a sport that combines discipline, connection with nature, and the thrill of exploring the depths on a single breath.

In addition to being a certified freediving instructor, I am also a professional underwater photographer. I specialize in capturing the beauty and serenity of the aquatic world, from the magical cenotes of Tulum to the vast ocean teeming with marine life. Whether it’s dynamic freediving shots or breathtaking scenes of nature, my photography is all about sharing the wonders beneath the surface.

I hold a degree in Business Administration, which has helped me transform my passion into a thriving business. At 32, I’m dedicated to exploring Tulum’s hidden gems, connecting with marine life, and sharing my knowledge with others.

As a freediving competitor and coach, I love helping students at all levels overcome challenges, improve their techniques, and find freedom in the water. Whether you’re looking to get certified, train for your next goal, or create unforgettable underwater memories, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Join me in Tulum and experience the freedom, beauty, and adventure that Diving Sombrero has to offer!
